Birds of the Philippines
Photos and videos of wild birds found in the Philippines. We travel all over the Philippines to document and take pictures of birds. Our goal is to make this site a resource of information and images about wild birds of the Philippines.
Zamboanga Birds
We visited two sites in the Zamboanga Watershed Park over four days. The two sites are the Intake and Baluno. Both sites are near the city proper. Our guide was Joel Baysa. We were with Clemn and Marester Macasiano.
The Intake is an easy 30 minute drive from the city. Near the entrance of the site is a ranger station where we used the bathroom and hut where we left our backpacks. A few steps from the ranger station is where we saw the tailorbirds and the Forest Wagtail. The trail leads to a stream. Before the stream is where the Philippine Dwarf Kingfisher can be found, but we didn't see it during our stay. We had Silvery Kingfisher at the stream. The trail continues past the stream to another ranger station where the Little Spiderhunter and Philippine Needletails can be found.
Baluno, the second site is about an hour's drive from the city. The road to the trail is rutted and requires a 4-wheel drive vehicle. It is a bigger site than the Intake and involves a lot of walking uphill. There are cottages with no electricity where you can stay overnight. The upper part of the trail is where the Mindanao Wattled Broadbill has been seen. We didn't see it during our trip.
