Where Do Birds Go During a Typhoon?

October 31, 2009

We woke up early because of the strong wind from Typhoon Santi. Two trees in our garden were blown down by the wind. When it became brighter outside, Tonji decided go out and have a look at our neighborhood. He stepped out of the house and saw an Osprey fly down our street! As he drove by the Alabang Country Club, he noticed a lot of white, cottony things in the middle of the Polo field. They were hundreds of Whiskered Terns bracing themselves against the wind! He went back home and picked me up!

This is the first time we have seen Whiskered Terns, a Common Sandpiper, a White Winged Tern and an Asian Golden Plover in Ayala Alabang. We estimate that there were about 360 Whiskered Terns in the field.
