Birds of the Philippines
Photos and videos of wild birds found in the Philippines. We travel all over the Philippines to document and take pictures of birds. Our goal is to make this site a resource of information and images about wild birds of the Philippines.
Brown Tit-Babbler
BROWN TIT-BABBLER
Macronous striaticeps
Family Timaliidae
Bird # 265 - October 2010
Babblers are noisy and active but difficult to see because they usually stay inside shrubs and low bushes. This is an endemic and found near the ground in the forest and forest edge up to 1500 m or more.
We have seen this species several times since our first encounter in Mt. Kitanglad. We have also seen it in Surigao del Sur, Zamboanga and Cagayan de Oro. It moves quite fast and we have not yet been able to take a super beauty shot of it. Hopefully we get a few more chances to get a really great photo.
We have seen this bird in big flocks or in twos. It moves low in the ground, in shrubs, thick vegetation, and also higher up on the tree branches. When it drops down the motion is like a falling leaf. Sometimes you think it is just a leaf falling to the ground but actually it was a Brown Tit- babbler.
