This is known as Eastern Reef Egret in the Kennedy Guide. We first saw this bird along the beach in Sabang, Palawan. We were walking to the mangrove area when we came upon two of them! They did not notice us and one kept coming closer. We were able to watch it catching fish in the surf. We took a lot of pictures.
This bird has a white phase and a dark phase.
We have seen this bird in: Tara Island, Palawan; Sabang, Palawan; Batan Island, Batanes.
