Birds of the Philippines
Photos and videos of wild birds found in the Philippines. We travel all over the Philippines to document and take pictures of birds. Our goal is to make this site a resource of information and images about wild birds of the Philippines.
Zamboanga Bulbul
ZAMBOANGA BULBUL
Ixos rufigularis
Family Pycnonotidae
Bird # 354 - March 2012
L 223mm (9 1/2")
Mindanao endemic, common in forest and forest edge
This was one of our target birds in Zamboanga as it's range is limited to Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao provinces only. It looks very much like a Philippine Bulbul, except that it has a plain rather than streaked throat and
breast.
These birds were difficult to photograph. They would either fly past us or perch very briefly and then fly off. When they did finally perch, they would hide their heads behind the branches of the trees!
