This bird was first seen by Charls Lee Ibañes in November 2019. It was a country record for Charls! According to Rob Hutchinson, this is a one of the birds that is on his list of birds expected to turn up in the Philippines one day.
We went to Batanes for a few days with Rob H and Christian Perez . It was wet and rainy and we all were soaked after a few minutes of walking in the rain. We first saw the bird in a field. Later on we had many good views of it along the road. It would fly a little bit forward each time we tried to approach for photos. There were two of them.
