This is called Common Koel in the Kennedy guide. According to the Kennedy guide this bird is found in lowland forest and edge skulking through the canopy and dense understory". It has a green bill. It is a parasitic nester. It lays its eggs in the nests of other birds. According to the Kennedy guide "in Palwan it is know to lay eggs in the nests of mynas". There are two endemic races found in the Philippines: frater in Calayan and Fuga and mindanensis.
Many birders' trip reports usually list this bird as "HO" or "heard only". It is one of those birds that is usually heard but not seen. It has a very loud and distinctive call that starts of slowly and then builds up in volume and beat ending in a "resounding frantic climax". The call sounds like ko-el ko-el ko-el ...".
