Birds of the Philippines
Photos and videos of wild birds found in the Philippines. We travel all over the Philippines to document and take pictures of birds. Our goal is to make this site a resource of information and images about wild birds of the Philippines.
Philippine Coucal
PHILIPPINE COUCAL
Centropus viridis
Cuculidae Family
Bird #48 - November 2008
We first saw this bird in Villa Escudero. We had a particularly good view of it from the bird blind in Villa Escudero. It is quite large and flies fast. We were very happy to get our first BIF -- bird in flight shot!
We got some nice photos in Sierra Madre were a Coucal was perched quite close wondering what bird call Tonji was trying to imitate. Tonji was trying to sound like a coucal but might have sounded more like a monkey.
There are also two pictures of a Coucal attacking a nest and carrying off a baby Pied Fantail. The mother Pied Fantail is chasing the coucal gripping the long tail. These were taken in Ayala Alabang.
