This is called Red-crested Malkoha in the Kennedy guide. This is a Philippine endemic. This was our third bird watching trip to Caylabne. The Malkoha was on our target list, and it showed up early in the trip! Unfortunately, it did not stay long enough for us to grab a photo. Too bad because it is an attractive and unusual looking bird. It has black plumage, a green bill and a red crest.
It was a very hot and muggy day. We were with two other bird photographers, Tina and Martin.
Update May 2009, finally got some nice pics of this shy bird.
