Rallina eurizonoides
Family Rallidae

Bird #529 - September 2020
L 265 mm (10 1/2")
resident, uncommon

The habit of this bird is described in the Kennedy guide as "found in more upland habits from forest, second growth, and scrub, not associated with water. Secretive, difficult to see." It is called uwang in Pilipino.

We saw this bird twice in the road at the farm. Both times, the bird was bathing in a puddle of water! The first time we saw this bird was several years ago but for some reason that we cannot recall, we did no record it in our bird list. This sighting happened as we were leaving the farm. We were in the car driving away when Tonji stopped the car because there was a bird bathing in a puddle in the middle of the road. It was about 1pm and we were looking against the light. It was hard to see details, but Tonji was sure it was an interesting bird. I grabbed my camera from the backseat started clicking away until the bird finished bathing and ran into the mango trees. This is our first time to get a lifer at the farm!
