There are 3 similarly colored and shaped birds in the Campephagidae family: the Ashy Minivet, Pied Triller and Black and White Triller. The Ashy Miniver and Black and White Triller are found in forests. The Pied Triller is found in gardens and urban areas and is not found in forests. The Ashy Minivet has a white forehead, the Pied Triller has a white eyebrow, and the Black and White Triller has a long white wing bar.
The first time we saw these birds was when a flock of at least 10 of these birds flew noisily by us in Caylabne. We didn't get a good look at them, but TIna and Martin positively identified them as Ashy Minivets. Looking at the Kennedy guide, they look very similar to Pied Trillers. They are black and white, not ashy-colored as one might think from the name!
