Culicicapa helianthea
Family Stenostiridae
Bird #246 - February 2010
This bird is a Philippine resident. It measures about 4 1/2 inches long. It is common and found in the understory, usually in montane forest. There 4 races: septentrionalis in Nortwestern Luzon; zimmeri in Catanduanes and central Luzon; panayensis in Biliran, Cebu, Leyte, Mindanao, Negros, Palawan, and Panay; mayri in Bongao and Tawi-Tawi.
This bird eluded us during our previous trip to Mt. Data and Sagada to look for mountain bird. We got a good look at this individual during this trip to Banaue. It appeared to be gathering nesting materials.
