Philippine Pied Fantail
PHILIPPINE PIED FANTAIL
Rhipidura nigritorquis
Rhipiduridae Family
common, endemic
L 190 mm (7 1/2")
Bird #5 - April 2008
This was a bird that caught the attention of the entire family even before we became birdwatchers because of its spunky personality. It would chase our dog Ella up and down the garden, trying to peck at Ella's head!
This bird was split from Pied Fantail Rhipidura javanica which also occurs outside the Philippines. It is now a Philippine endemic. This is called Pied Fantail in the Kennedy guide.
