Birds of the Philippines
Photos and videos of wild birds found in the Philippines. We travel all over the Philippines to document and take pictures of birds. Our goal is to make this site a resource of information and images about wild birds of the Philippines.
White-cheeked Bullfinch
WHITE-CHEEKED BULLFINCH
Pyrrhula leucogenis
Family Fringillidae
endemic, uncommon
Bird # 267 - October 2010
This is an uncommon montane endemic. Our first view of this bird was a very quick view of one through the scope in 2010. This was the 5,000th bird of Phoebe Snetsinger, the famous bird watcher. We deeply regretted not taking a picture right away and deciding instead to try to move closer for a better shot! The bird flew away and we didn't get another opportunity to photography this bird until 2017!
Tonji's story: A birthday bird on Mt. Apo at 1800masl.
This photo of a White Cheeked Bullfinch is not my best bird photo. :)
But it is one of our bogey birds we have seen but have dodged our cameras all these years. In hindsight I could have taken a better photo if I did not look for Sylvia to show her the bird. But it was her birthday. 🤔😰😱😈😍 so I ran down to look for her and bring her up. Good thing I did find her, and she and Martin got to see them. I do hope to get better photos of this bird in the future. But I think I will always look back fondly on this photo and remind Sylvia of how I sprinted to her and sprinted back to help her see a bird. Haha.
