Red Keeled Flowerpecker
RED KEELED FLOWERPECKER
Dicaeum australe
Dicaeidae Family
endemic, common
L 100 mm (4")
Bird #47 - November 2008
This is a Philippine endemic. It is a very pretty bird! We first saw this bird in a tree in Villa Escudero, Quezon. Carmela identified it for us.
It was a very enjoyable and relaxing bird trip. We met Tina by the Madrigal gate at 4.30 am and took about 2 hours to drive to Villa Escudero. It was a bit rainy when we got there, so we had a nice breakfast at the veranda first. The rain soon stopped and we started birding at 8.30am. We first went to the waterfall area. Tina decided to stay there to wait for the Indigo Banded Kingfisher. Carmela took us around to show us her usual birding spots. We went to the bird blind/hut, then walked around. Had a buffet lunch at the waterfalls, then headed back home by 2.30 pm
