This bird is only found in Mindanao. Its habitat is forest and edge above 900 m. It is usually found in fruiting and flowering trees, singly or in pairs. It has a white whisker, dark malar stripe, glossy blue-black upperparts, and greyish brown underparts.
Davao-based WBCP member Pete Simpson brought us to the mountain trail where these birds can be seen reliably. The trail was discovered by another WBCP member Mark Wallbank.
