This Philippine endemic is only in Mindanao. Its habitat is mountain forest from 700 to 1500 m. It is described as secretive, found singly or in pairs. It stays in the undergowth. It looks similar to Little Slaty Flycatcher and Snowy-browed Flycatcher. Cryptic Flycatcher has prominent orange rufous lores, eyering, and breast. The crown and nape are olive brown, becoming progressively more rusty towards rump.
We saw three individuals in two locations at the resort we stayed in.
