Birds of the Philippines
Photos and videos of wild birds found in the Philippines. We travel all over the Philippines to document and take pictures of birds. Our goal is to make this site a resource of information and images about wild birds of the Philippines.
Dark-sided Flycatcher
DARK-SIDED FLYCATCHER
Muscicapa sibirica
Family Muscicapidae
Bird # 336 - September 2011
This is a rare migrant. According to the Kennedy guide, "it has only previously been recorded in Palawan and Culion from 10 to 25 September". It is a 5 inch long bird with grayish brown and white mottled throat and breast.
We posted the photos in our LBJ (little brown jobs) gallery initially and asked Des A to ask Philip D. Round to id the bird. Phil Round said, "Upper five pictures show a first-winter Dark-sided Flycatcher. Retention of so many juvenile feathers on upperparts into the first-winter plumage seems to be frequent in this species".
We were extremely excited about seeing a new bird in Mt. Palay palay, especially when we just accompanying our son Franco who was doing a biology experiment!
