Bird #517 - November 2018

This bird is open forest, forest edge, orchards, scrub, and thickets. It breeds in southern E Palearctic, India, Tibet, China, and Korea. It is a rare visitor to the Philippines. There were only 3 previous records of this bird before it was seen again in 2018. The first record was in Batan on 6 May 1989. The second record was by Jasmin Meren in Mahatao, Batanes on March 2016. The third record was by Rob Hutchinson in Batanes on Christmas 2017.

Charls Lee Ibañes, a tour guide and new birder from Batanes saw 6 Daurian Redstart. He saw two pairs and two males in two different sites. When we were there, there was only one male bird in each site. One of the sites was the same small creek beside Shanedel's where we first saw a White Wagtail when we first went to Batanes in October 2011. We were able to see the bird at that site every day that we were in Batanes. We did not see the female.
