Birds of the Philippines
Photos and videos of wild birds found in the Philippines. We travel all over the Philippines to document and take pictures of birds. Our goal is to make this site a resource of information and images about wild birds of the Philippines.
Rufous-tailed Jungle-flycatcher
RUFOUS-TAILED JUNGLE-FLYCATCHER
Rhinomyias ruficauda
Family Muscicapidae
Bird #286 - January 2011
This bird is an uncommon resident measuring about 5 1/2 inches.
We were all standing on wet, muddy, and slippery logs peering into the dense foliage looking for a Tailorbird when we noticed a bird that was quite still, perched on a low branch. It took some maneuvering for everyone in the group to see the bird through all the greenery. Eventually, it flew up and perched for a moment on an open branch, but I didn't realize it was the same bird!
Since the first encounter, we have seen this bird again 3 times. In Bohol once and twice in Bislig in 2012.
