Birds of the Philippines
Photos and videos of wild birds found in the Philippines. We travel all over the Philippines to document and take pictures of birds. Our goal is to make this site a resource of information and images about wild birds of the Philippines.
Benguet Bush Warbler
BENGUET BUSH WARBLER
Bradypterus seebohmi
Bessang Pass, Ilocos Sur
endemic, rare
L 147mm (5 3/4")
Bird #406 - March 2013
This bird was on our "birds seen but not photographed" list for four years. In the Kennedy guide, it is listed as "rare, poorly known ... call unknown". The call is known now. When we first saw it, we based the ID mainly on the call and brief glimpses of the bird. This bird usually calls loudly while hiding in low shrubs.
We were able to photograph and video this bird thanks to Rob Hutchinson. He showed us a particular spot where the bird had perched the previous day and amazingly it did it again and that allowed us to finally take photos of this elusive bird. The video shows how the bird likes to hide while calling out. It is probably one of the most difficult Philippine Birds to photograph and video. We have encountered it in Nueva Viscaya, Ilocos Sur, Polis and Baguio.
