Birds of the Philippines
Photos and videos of wild birds found in the Philippines. We travel all over the Philippines to document and take pictures of birds. Our goal is to make this site a resource of information and images about wild birds of the Philippines.
Ashy-Headed Babbler
ASHY-HEADED BABBLER
Trichastoma cinereiceps
Family Pellorneidae
Bird # 368 - September 2012
L 115 mm (4 1/2")
endemic, fairly common
This bird is usually found on or near the ground in forest and second growth. It is found only in Palawan. It is described in the book as "solitary but not shy".
This is the type of bird that you could probably eventually photograph well if you took the time to sit and wait for it to show. We first saw it at the Crocodile Farm, where we were not able to photograph it. Tonji had a great view of it while he was sitting by the porcupine enclosure. When other tourists would come by to see the porcupine, we didn't know whether we should shoo them away or make the quickly look at the porcupine and then send them off so we could continue looking for the Ashy-headed Babbler.
