Mindanao Hornbill
MINDANAO HORNBILLbr>
Penelopides affinis
Family Bucerotidae
endemic, fairly common
Bird # 268 - October 2010
This is called Tarictic Hornbill in the Kennedy guide. We saw this individual from the lodge! It was very far away and there was no way to approach it. It was in the same tree as a Yellow Breasted Fruit Dove! On a different day, we also saw a male and a female while we were walking back to the lodge. It is a very large and distinctive looking bird. The female is bluish. It is a Philippine endemic and was split from the Tarictic Hornbill.
