Glossy Ibis
GLOSSY IBIS
Plegadis falcinellus
Threskiornithidae Family
Length 610 mm (24")
Wingspan 940 mm(37")
Resident, Rare
Bird #463 - June 2014
This is a rare visitor to Luzon. It is reported to breed in Mindanao.
We arrived at the site where this bird was reported late in the afternoon. We were dismayed to find out that maintenance work was being done at the site and people had been cutting the grass since earlier in the day. There was only an injured Pacific Reef Heron, Crested Mynas, Common Moorhen, egrets and a few other birds by the water. We were surprised when the Glossy Ibis flew in at about 6 pm with a flock of Cattle Egrets. They flew over the pond several times before coming in to land.
