This bird is the size of a White-collared Kingfisher. It is usually found in forests below 1000 m. Regarding its status, it says in Guide to the Birds of the Philippines that "This species may no be endangered (if not extripated already from some islands) due to the rapid disappearance of lowland forests throughout its range, particularly on Basilan, Mindanao, Cebu, Leyte, Negros, and Siquijor."
