This species was split from Philippine Hawk-Eagle Nisaetus philippensis. Pinsker's Hawk-eagle is found in Basilan, Leyte, Mindanao, Negros, Samar, and Siquijor. It says in Oriental Bird images "Not clear whether the birds on Mindoro are attributable to N. pinskeri, N. philippensis or an intermediate population."
