Birds of the Philippines
Photos and videos of wild birds found in the Philippines. We travel all over the Philippines to document and take pictures of birds. Our goal is to make this site a resource of information and images about wild birds of the Philippines.
White-bellied Sea Eagle
WHITE-BELLIED SEA EAGLE
Haliaeestus leucogaster
Accipitridae Family
Bird #204 - June 2009
This is an uncommon Philippine resident. It is 760 mm (74") long. It has white underparts, dark flight feathers and a wedge-shaped tail.
We first encountered this in Palawan at the beach in near Underground River. Tonji saw it several times, but wasn't able to take a picture.
When we saw this bird several times in Batanes it was in a mid-air skirmish with a Peregrine Falcon! We were surprised that the smaller Peregrine Falcon looked like the aggressor. There were 2 Peregrine Falcons and they appeared to be protecting that ridge area of the mountain.
