This was formerly known as Tabon Scrubfowl (Kennedy Guide). There are two races found in the Philippines. We photographed cumingii (resident)in the underground river park in Palawan. The other race pusillus(endemic) we photographed in Mindoro.
Our first sighting of this bird was in the forest area near the Ranger Station of the Underground River. We saw two of them walking through the undegrowth. The rangers said that they usually accompany the Palawan Peacock-Pheasant that stays in that area.
