Savanna Nightjar
SAVANNA NIGHTJAR
Caprimulgus affinis
Caprimulgidae Family
Bird #169 - May 2009
The Savanna Nightjar is the smallest Philippine nightjar. It is about 8 1/2 inches long. It is described as "resident and uncommon", although there seem to be several of them in our neighborhood. We identified this bird mainly by its call, which is very loud and distinctive. It sounds like a sharp, piercing "chiveeet". They are difficult to see since they are active at night and very well-camouflaged in the daytime.
