This small owl is found in lowland forests in Negros. Unfortunately, much of its habitat is disappearing because of deforestation. Less than 4% of forest is left in Negros. Phiilippine Scops Owl was split recently into three species: Philippine Scops Owl, Everett's Scops Owl, and Negros Scops Owl. The montane Scops Owls are even smaller by about 1/2 inches.
We were able to see this owl near the area of Liptong Woodland, the impressive and successful 1.6 hecate reforestation farm of Rene Vendiola. He started planting native trees and plants in 2006.
