This bird is described in the Kennedy guide as fairly common in mid-mountain and montane mossy forest above 1000 m, singly, in pairs or small groups. Its status in IUCN is near threatened.
They tend to call our loudly while in flight. We heard them calling out before we saw a group of 4 birds flying past us.
Montane Racket-tail was split . The one found in Mt. Kitanglad and Mindanao is a separate species called Mindanao Racket-tail Prioniturus waterstradti.
