This is the first Australian Pelican recorded in the Philippines. It was first reported by Alex Alcantara who saw it in his fishpond. He sent a photo to the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines for identification. At first it was assumed to be a Spot-billed Pelican, since that is the Pelican species occurred in Philippines until it was extripated. The last Spot-billed Pelican reported in the Philippines was in 1972.
The Australian Pelican created a big stir and was featured in the front page of the Sun Star, various news outlets and tv shows.
