Cream-Bellied Fruit Dove
CREAM-BELLIED FRUIT DOVE
Ptilinopus merrilli faustinoi
Family Columbidae
Bird # 303 - March 2011
This is an uncommon Philippine endemic. It is about 12 3/4 inches long. There are two races, the northern race faustinoi has a crimson crown.
There was a big fruiting tree 15 minutes away from our camp. Nicky had already scoped it out the week before we arrived and noticed that the Cream-Bellied Fruit Doves and Flame-Breasted Fruit Doves, and Tarictic Hornbills went there to feed early every morning. We all wondered why they fed so briefly and left so many of the fruit behind.
