Grey Imperial Pigeon

GREY IMPERIAL PIGEON
Ducula pickeringii
Family Columbidae

L 405 mm (16")
endemic, common but local

Bird # 417 - May 2013

This is described in the Kennedy guide as "common, but local on remote forested islets in the canopy in fairly large groups. Travel between small islets to feed ..." They look similar to the more common Green Imperial Pigeon. One distinctive difference is the color of the undertail covets. The undertail  of the Grey Imperial is grey while the undertail of the Green imperial is chestnut.

They are called balud by the locals on Pandan Island where we saw these birds.
