There were a lot of these birds when we went to Subic the week before but we didn't see them! So we were glad to see ONE in Caylabne, right next to the reception area! Since then we have seen them all over the country in Sierra Madre, Bohol and Davao.
Proposed split of the Phapitreron leucotis complex by del Hoyo and Collar 2014 has already been accepted by BirdLife International. Following that split, the species are: White-eared Brown Dove Phapitreron leucotis for Luzon; Buff-eared Brown-dove Phapitreron nigrorum for Negros, Panay, Cebu, Masbate and Romblon; and Short-billed Brown Dove P. brevirostris for Bohol, Samar, Leyte and Mindanao.
