Photos and videos of wild birds found in the Philippines. We travel all over the Philippines to document and take pictures of birds. Our goal is to make this site a resource of information and images about wild birds of the Philippines.
Yellow-Breasted Fruit Dove
YELLOW BREASTED FRUIT DOVE
Ptilinopus occipitalis
Columbidae Family
Bird #96 - January 2009
This is a Philippine endemic that we saw in Mt. Kitanglad. We got a very good view of it on the third day of our birding trip.
Our first photo of this bird was during our second trip to Mt. Kitanglad with Nicky Icarangal and our son Franco. This was taken from the lodge, it was very far away. There was a Mindanao Hornbill on the next tree.
This bird is 11 1/2". We saw a man with an airgun and also heard shots while we were out birding. Nicky said that the hunters usually go after doves like this. We saw it again in March 2011 in the Northern Sierra Madre.
