When it is in breeding plumage, its feathers turn black and white. In non-breeding plumage it is brown and white. It looks similar to the Asian Golden Plover. They can be told apart by the golden spots on the upperparts of the Asian Golden Plover which the Grey Plover doesn't have. The Grey Plover is also larger than the Asian Golden Plover.
