Lesser Sand Plover
LESSER SAND PLOVER
Charadrius mongolus
Charadriidae Family
Bird #53 - November 2008
This is a common migrant. It looks very similar to the Greater Sand-Plover. It has a shorter bill and legs than the Great Sand-Plover. It also has a shorter neck and rounder head.
We first saw this bird in San Juan Batangas. It was very hard to differentiate the Lesser Sand Plover from the Greater Sand Plover in the photos we took at that time. Tim Fisher was there and said there were Lesser Sand Plovers in the group. The photos are from a trip to the Tanjay Mangrove in Negros Oriental in September 2011
