Birds of the Philippines
Photos and videos of wild birds found in the Philippines. We travel all over the Philippines to document and take pictures of birds. Our goal is to make this site a resource of information and images about wild birds of the Philippines.
Eurasian Curlew
EURASIAN CURLEW
Numenius arquata
Scolopacidae Family
Length 23" (585mm)
Uncommon-Migrant
Bird #87 - December 2008
The Eurasian Curlew has a very long beak (170mm) but shorter than the Far Eastern's beak as can be seen in the photo below.
It also has a white lower back and rump and more white on the belly compared to a Far Eastern Curlew.
We first encountered this species in the Coastal Lagoon with the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines. This bird is uncommon and caused a stir among the birders present!
Since then we have seen this bird in Olango and in Pampanga. Interestingly we have always seen lone birds. While the Far Eastern Curlew was in a big flock when we saw it in Olango.
