Arenaria interpres
Family Scolopacidae
Bird #210 - September 2009
This is a fairly common resident bird. It is found along the coast on beaches. As its name implies, it forages by turning over stones. It measures 8 1/2 inches in length. It has a very distinctive and easy to identify color pattern when in breeding plumage.
The first time we saw this bird was in Coastal Lagoon. We were amazed and appalled that there were birds picking around the garbage that accumulated by this beach.
