Asian Glossy Starling

ASIAN GLOSSY STARLING
Aplonis panayensis
Sturnidae Family

common, resident
L 202 mm (8")

Bird #27 - July 2008

We saw this bird at a scuba diving resort in Dumaguete. This bird looks scary when you see it because of its red eyes. They were flying around the tops of the coconut trees.  At first we thought there might be 2 species sharing the coconut trees, but realized the "others" were immature birds. There was a colony of this birds, and they would fly around the tops of the coconut trees in the resort.
