Pygmy Swiftlet
PYGMY SWIFTLET
Collocalia troglodytes
Family Apodidae
Bird # 293 - January 2011
This is a common Philippine endemic. It is 3 1/2" long and is the smallest swiflet found in the Philippines. The Kennedy guide describes this bird as "fairly common and is the smallest swiftlet found in groups flying low over forest and clearings". Its diagnostic feature is the white rump that contrasts with the blackish upperparts.
We first saw this in PICOP, Bislig, Surigao del Sur but were not able to photograph it. We were able to photograph it in August 2011 in Rajah Sikatuna National Park in Bilar, Bohol.
This is a Philippine endemic.
