Birds of the Philippines
Photos and videos of wild birds found in the Philippines. We travel all over the Philippines to document and take pictures of birds. Our goal is to make this site a resource of information and images about wild birds of the Philippines.
White-fronted Tit
WHITE-FRONTED TIT
Parus semilarvatus
Family Paridae
rare, endemic
L 133 mm (5 1/2")
Bird # 446 - October 2013
This is a very small bird. Its habitat is lowland and middle elevation forest and second growth, usually in the crowns of trees.
The known site for this bird is Subic. As it is small and quick, it is hard to spot. It can be found by listening for its call, which sounds very similar to a Guaiabero's call. This was one of Tonji's great moments in birding by ear when he found this bird by listening for its call among all the other bird and insect sounds around us.
We saw the Mindanao race nehrkorni in Sultan Kudarat. It has white marks on the nape and distinguishing white marks on the wing (inner primaries and outer secondaries). The Luzon race does not have this band on the wing.
