Harpactes ardens
Trogonidae Family
Bird #146 - April 2009
This is a Philippine endemic. The first time we saw this bird was in the forest trail of Mt. Makiling in Los Baños. It was clinging to a tree trunk and its back looked bright red! We were not able to get pictures that first time. It became one of our target birds. We went back in May 2009 and got a few pictures. We have seen this bird in other places since then such as Mt. Palay Palay and the Northern Sierra Madre.

on March 21, 2011Thanks for the comment Alvin. I edited the paragraph to make it more clear. The intro paragraph was describing our first time to see the bird which was in Mt. Makiling. I don't know if you're a birdwatcher, but we like to keep track of our first time to see a new species! We don't have a picture of that first sighting. This photo was our 2nd time to see the bird and it was taken in Mt. Palay Palay.
