FOREST WAGTAIL
Dendronanthus indicus
Family Motacillidae

Bird # 351 - March 2012

L 158mm (6 1/4")
rare migrant

This is a rare migrant. According to the Kennedy guide, this is the wagtail that doesn't wag its tail. It sways its tail and body sideways. We saw this bird in the same area on two out of the three days that we visited the site. It was quietly walking along the same stony patch of trail that is quite near the outpost of the Pasonanca staff. The bird was first spotted by British birder Andy who had been birding the area for several days. Andy saw two birds, but we only saw one individual at a time.
