This is migrant is rare in the Philippines. However on our trip to Batanes we saw a lot of them. Sometimes in groups of five. We saw them in the town, on the piers and near the mountain, in fields and in freshwater.
It is larger than the Grey and Yellow Wagtail. It has a distinctive black shield on the chest.
We got great views and good looks of this bird in Batanes as well as many chances to take pictures.
In November 28, 2011 in Quezon City another race leucopsis was discovered in La Mesa Ecopark by Ruth Francisco. We went there a few days later and took some pictures as well. Now we have pictures of two races of White Wagtails. Maybe another race will show up in the future. The leucopsis has no eye stripe and has a more solid chest shield than ocularis.
