This is a Philippine endemic. It measures 5 1/2 inches long. It is described in the Kennedy guide as fairly common. It is usually found in mixed flocks. There are 3 races: affinis found in Catanduanes, east, central and southern Luzon , nigrocapitata in Leyte and Samar, and boholensis in Bohol. The 3 races are differentiated primarily by throat color and range.
The Black-Crowned Babber moves a lot through the trees. It is a challenging bird to photograph!
