Birds of the Philippines
Photos and videos of wild birds found in the Philippines. We travel all over the Philippines to document and take pictures of birds. Our goal is to make this site a resource of information and images about wild birds of the Philippines.
Mindanao White-eye
MINDANAO WHITE-EYE
Lophozosterops goodfellowi
Zosteropidae Family
L133mm (5 1/2")
endemic, common
Bird #409 - April 2013
We had very poor views of this bird on our previous visits to Mt. Kitanglad. In 2009 the one group we saw just flew by, and so we didn't count it as a lifer. During our third trip we got better views and a really bad picture. We finally got a useable picture in Mt. Apo in 2014.
It seemed to be traveling with a mixed flock at around 1300+ meters. It moved quickly with the mixed flock and was gone before we could take more pictures. I hope we have better encounters with this bird in the future.
We got to take much better pictures in Compostela Valley in November 2015. We saw several flocks of this bird and had excellent views of them moving from tree to tree and got to hear their calls very well. We saw them in pairs and up to groups of 5.
There are 7 races in the Philippines
parkesi - Palawan
whiteheadi - Luzon
gilli - Marinduque
diuatae - north and western Mindanao (Mts. Hilong-Hilong, Malindang, Mayo, Pasian, and Puting Bato and mountains of Misamis Orienta)l
vulcani - central and southern Mindanao (mts. Apo, Busa, Kitanglad, and Matutum)
pectoralis - Negros
halconensis - Mindoro, Panay, Sibuyan
