Birds of the Philippines
Photos and videos of wild birds found in the Philippines. We travel all over the Philippines to document and take pictures of birds. Our goal is to make this site a resource of information and images about wild birds of the Philippines.
Spot-throated Flameback
SPOT-THROATED FLAMEBACK
Dinopium everetti
Picidae Family
Bird #186 - June 2009
There were two of them in the tree! We were in the ranger station of the Underground River to see the Palawan peacock. We decided to have a look around the forest area since the peacock seemed like it might be a no-show. Two days later, Monica and I hiked the Monkey Trail that leads from the underground river back to Sabang, passing through the mangrove area. We saw three woodpeckers in a tree!
This was originally called Common Flameback Dinopium javanense. The species occurring in Palawan was split into a new species Spot-throated Flameback Dinopium everetti. This species is confined to Palawan, Balabac, Busuanga, and Culion.
