Yellow-faced Flameback

YELLOW-FACED FLAMEBACK
Chrysocolaptes xanthocephalus
Family Picidae

endemic

Bird # 476 - February 2015

Greater Flameback Chrysocolaptes lucidus was split into Buff-spotted Flameback, Luzon Flameback, Yellow-faced Flameback, and Red-headed Flameback.

We first encountered this bird in Mantiquil. Only Tonji had a view. It was one of the most challenging hikes we had been on so far. It was very long, very uphill, there were river crossings, and the trail was difficult.
